Most ovens in Kathmandu homes are countertop OTGs or built-in electric ovens. When they stop heating, the cause is usually a burnt-out heating element, a thermostat, a thermal fuse or the selector switch. These parts can normally be tested and replaced at your home.
If only the top or the bottom heats, one element has usually failed. If food burns on one side or stays raw in the middle, the thermostat, the convection fan or the door seal is a likely cause.
Most people in Nepal say "oven" when they mean a microwave oven. If yours is a microwave, solo, grill or convection, it usually stops heating because of the magnetron, high-voltage diode, capacitor or a door switch. See our microwave oven repair page for the details, or just call.
Check that the socket works and the timer is set (many OTGs won't heat unless the timer is turned). Note the brand, the model and what happens when you switch it on. If it smells of burning or trips the power, stop using it.
