Washing machine error codes: Samsung, LG and Bosch
Short answer
Most codes mean one of four things: no water coming in (Samsung 4C/4E, LG IE, Bosch E17), water not draining (Samsung 5C/5E, LG OE, Bosch E18), the door not locking (Samsung dC/dE, LG dE), or an unbalanced load (Samsung UB/UE, LG UE). Check the tap, the pump filter, the door and the load first. If the code comes back, call a technician. Exact meanings vary by model.
Check these first
Turn it off and on
Switch off at the wall for a minute. Some codes clear after a power cut or voltage dip.
No water codes
Open the tap fully, check the inlet hose isn't kinked, and check that there's water pressure in the house.
Drain codes
Clean the pump filter at the bottom front and straighten the drain hose.
Door codes
Make sure no clothes are caught in the door and push it firmly shut.
Unbalanced codes
Spread the load out, or remove a heavy blanket and run it separately.
Call a technician if
- The code comes back after these checks
- It shows a motor, heater, sensor or leak code
- The display shows a code you can't find here

Questions
Can I keep using the machine with an error code?
Not with leak, motor or heater codes. Switch it off and call. For no-water or drain codes, fix the cause first. Running it again won't help.
Why does my machine show an error after a power cut?
Power cuts and voltage spikes can interrupt a cycle or damage the control board. Switch it off at the wall, wait a minute and try again. If the code stays, the board or a sensor may need checking.
